Kidney Issues
Hi Friends,
We wanted to update you all on what is going on with our next little one. We've known for several weeks now that our little bun in the oven looks like he has an abnormal kidney. Our ultrasound at 20 weeks showed a "renal pelvis of increased size." Basically, it means that urine is either having a hard time getting out of the kidney or that it is backwashing back up into the kidney from the bladder, in either case causing the kidney to swell.
From what we understand, sometimes this can mean nothing. The baby can be perfectly fine with two normally functioning kidneys. Sometimes it can end up being quite serious requiring major surgery and the possible loss of the kidney. Sometimes the baby can have a large kidney throughout the entire pregnancy, but then it resolves sometime after birth. However, the size of our baby's kidney at 22 weeks is large enough to be a concern at 33 weeks, possibly even at birth.
God has been extremely gracious to us in helping us rely on him and not be anxious in this time of waiting. We know that He is both sovereign and loving and thankfully He has helped us to rest in the great knowledge of His power and care. Of course, we would prefer that the baby be born healthy and we'd covet your prayers, knowing that God hears and answers. We also know that God might answer differently than we'd like, and we'd ask that you also pray that we'd bless His name and rejoice in His goodness regardless of outcome.
We have our next ultrasound to check on the kidney on September 15th at 10 am, so please pray with us! Thank you!

Did you know that Cade had the same problem-detected in utero also? He had surgery at 18 months and was on antibiotics up til that time. Call us. Seems scary, but very correctable. : )
Praying for you and your little one. We love you guys.
Praying for you and thankful for your hearts to trust in the Lord. I know our hearts can wrestle with fear even when it isn't that abnormal (at least ours did with Andrew's heart!) so we're praying for great hope and trust in our good and sovereign God!
We'll be praying for your next little man!...and Mama and Daddy's hearts also!
Sending hugs to you both - wish we could give them in person. We will be praying that the Lord strengthens you during this time and brings His peace to your hearts. Love you much!
