Do Hard Things

We went with the high school students from church to Des Moines, Iowa this Friday and Saturday for the Do Hard Things conference. It was quite the whirlwind trip. We left Friday night, spent the night in a church, spent all day at the conference, and took off back for Rockford at 6 pm. I personally didn't hear that much of the conference because for some reason Liam's attention span was a bit short of the required 8 hours. I think some of the high school students also fell into that category :) But, from what they all said, it was a great event and encouraged them not to accept the low expectations that society has allowed teenagers to fall into. The speakers emphasized, so I hear, that the teenage years aren't simply a break from life and responsibility, but a time to grow in character and into the men and women that God wants them to be. We're praying the students don't just experience an "event high," but that lives would be changed.

A side note-Liam didn't get much sleep on the trip, but he is making up for it today! He got to sleep at about 11:30 last night and is sleeping still! Liam is usually a champion sleeper, but it didn't work so well sleeping Friday night in the same room with a bunch of students and then trying to fall asleep on the bus when the oh-so-entertaining kids were having fun just a few feet away. Liam has woken up just a few times to eat since last night, but goes right back to sleep. Poor boy!

Any suggestions on how to take your kids on ministry overnighters without destroying them?

You can't destroy them. They'll bounce back. It's hard, but as a pastor's family flexibility is the key. You guys are doing a great job. Miss you all - Lanae
